What Is Kybella?
Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment meant to target and minimize the appearance of submental fullness.
The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin.
Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
How many sessions are needed?
Since everyone that enters our medical center has different needs and desires the number of treatments varies from patient to patient. Your healthcare specialist will help determine how many treatment sessions you need based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat and your personal treatment goals. Each KYBELLA® treatment session is given at least 1 month apart, and you should not receive more than 6 treatments. It is recommended an estimate of 6 sessions for full desired results.
Can Kybella Help You Lose Weight?
Many people assume that since Kybella can dissolve the fat under your chin it can also dissolve fat in other places. However, Kybella is not a weight loss treatment and should not be viewed as such.
Although it does effectively destroy fat, Kybella is not approved for use in any other areas besides under the chin. As such, Kybella does not cause significant weight loss.
Is Double Chin Removal with Kybella Permanent?
For most people, double chin removal with Kybella is permanent. Rather than just shrinking fat cells, Kybella permanently destroys and removes them so that they cannot return or grow in size. This means that once you achieve your desired results, you can expect them to stick around for a lifetime as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
It’s important to note that certain individual factors — including an unhealthy lifestyle — may cause you to develop new submental fullness several years after receiving Kybella. However, we can swiftly address this concern with subsequent Kybella injections.

Is There Any Downtime After Receiving Kybella Injections?
There is minimal downtime associated with Kybella treatment. We recommend taking the entire day of your procedure off. This gives you plenty of time to relax afterward. Most people choose to return to work the day after their treatment and find that recovery does not interfere with their daily activities.
